PROGRAM TO HELP WOUNDED WAR HEROES Thank you to all the authors who have responded. Based on your excellent suggestions, we are revising our request to make it easier for any author of fiction or nonfiction to affiliate with Books For Boots (B4B). For faster communication, please phone me, Rick Gelinas, at my home at 863-298-8748, M-F, 9-5 EST, or use my personal email which I check frequently each day: rickgelinas@tampabay.rr.com. The B4B mission statement may be read in full at www.booksforboots.org. (Notice it's ORG.) In brief, our mission is to help grievously wounded war heroes in hospital. We help by giving them free books and by giving the hospital money to be used for the needs of those hospitalized veterans. All we ask of you is that you pledge a certain amount of your income from book sales. How much is up to you. If you want to give books as well as cash, that's fine. We need both. Your gift is tax deductible through this 501(c)(3). Our EIN # is 59-1836063. There is nothing to join, no dues, no fees, and we sell nothing. Here's what's in it for you: * We arrange booksignings for you. Right now we need to sign up authors to sell their own books inside more than 60 retail stores (not bookstores) in the DC/VA area. More locations soon in other parts of the nation. We charge nothing for this. * You post your book, synopsis, bio notes, and purchase info on the B4B website. * You use your B4B affiliation to enlarge the news value of you and your book and to promote your book sales. * We will offer you the benefit of whatever has worked for others in selling books outside the bookstore ---- not always easy, especially for fiction! Each of us can contribute a little but together we can make a big difference in the recovery of grievously wounded war heroes who have given us so much. Please participate in B4B and please share this invitation with other authors by posting it everywhere. Many thanks. Books for Boots is a nonprofit program that is operated by a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 1984 in Florida by Rick & Linda Gelinas. Its EIN is 59-1836063 and its Florida ID is 743453. Gifts to Books for Boots may be tax-deductible under IRS rules. Consult your tax attorney or accountant. Books for Boots, a program co-founded in 2007 by the husband/wife team of Rick & Linda Gelinas, invites authors, publishers and others to be affiliates, sponsors, donors or officers. All Books for Boots positions, including that of the co-founders, are determined by the board of directors to be of a volunteer nature and to be unpaid. An affiliate author donates some or all of their royalties (or income) on at least one title. An affiliate publisher donates books, usually one book for every book sold -- and again, for at least one title. (Sometimes an affiliate will donate both, royalties and books.) Donated royalties are given to families who need help in meeting the cost of travel to make a bedside visit to their own wounded war hero in a distant hospital. Donated books go to war heroes in hospital. A sponsor donates service to Books for Boots to help manage the program equitably. A donor makes a cash grant to help cover program costs, or gives product to support this program's work. It is expected and desirable that affiliates, donors, sponsors and officers will use their affiliation with Books for Boots to create their own publicity, news, and marketing advantages for their books or their other products/services. This is a normal quid pro quo relationship -- the concept of "doing good by doing good," and of getting "something for something." An affiliate is not a representative. No one, including an officer, is authorized to represent Books for Boots; that is, no one may speak for or act on behalf of Books for Boots without the express written consent of either of the co-founders and of the Books for Boots board of directors. On the other hand, an affiliate is encouraged to tell the world of their support for Books for Boots; use your affiliation to help you sell your book, product or service. Anyone who wishes to be an officer (carrying the related title) for program development, connecting with other agencies and persons, or applying for grants or creating other types of funding, performing record-keeping and/or other administrative functions, is encouraged to work with the co-founders - who will be immensely grateful for the help! Again the reminder: no one on this team is paid. Persons interested in being an affiliate, a sponsor, a donor, or an officer, are invited to contact the co-founders, Rick & Linda Gelinas, at info@booksforboots.org. (Notice: It's "org" and not "com") |
